Who doesn't love the chance to drink for charity 😅 And when you can learn how to create your own cocktail from Sámara's best craft cocktail bartender, Carla at Angler's, you just can't pass that opportunity up!

Angler's opened their doors to a group of 15 eager students ready to find out what makes a balanced and memorable cocktail.
Every good bartender knows the best drinks start with the best ingredients!

Carla explains the most important part of a well crafted cocktail, prep work! She spends hours infusing her housemade simple syrups with tumeric, ginger, rosemary, sage (and more), juicing fresh limon mandarinas, and preparing and pureeing the local fruits, herbs, and spices that make her drinks so flavorful.

Shhhh, we found out Carla's secret 🤫🤣 Unless you are making a dessert cocktail, every drink is made better with a balance of sweet and sour coming together to give the drink a cohesive and intentional taste. Carla achieves this by giving every drink a base of one of her sugar syrups; raw brown simple syrup or the what she has infused with herbs and spices like Rosemary, Sage, Tumeric, and Ginger; and then adding the painstakingly hand squeezed limon mandarina juice (emphasis on FRESH squeezed, Carlita was very clear the bottled BS from the super is unacceptable 😅). After which, your flavors of choice can be added.

Now that that's out of the way, it's time for the fun! Prepared with the knowledge that every drink needs a balance of sweet and sour, each attendee was able to choose their own concoction. The local produce selection in Sámara allows Angler's bar to offer so many different flavors. On the day of our class, we got to choose from strawberry, blackberry, pineapple, mango, coconut, red dragon fruit, passionfruit, guanabana, cucumber, jalapeño, basil, and more.

Once you had an idea of your flavor profile, sweet, herbacious, sour, spicy...Carla gave everyone tips on which liquors fit complimented each flavor choice the most...vodka, rums, tequila, mezcal, gin, and more. My favorite course tip: Drink the one you like 😆
I went with a chocolate and coffee martini, with her housemade coffee infused liquor...OMG it is to die for! Apparently she sells it as well as a housemade honey liquor....I ended up getting a bottle to take home 🤩

The best part, trying everyone's innovative drink combos! The two best drinks were a coconut and coffee cockatil, name TBD but maybe the Spunky Monkey, or Cafe Coco? And a surprisingly refreshing and tasty compilation of passion fruit and sage! It was a little too good. I'm calling it "The Passionate Sage"

The 15 class graduates and myself are now armed with the knowledge of what makes a great cocktail and are ready to impress our friends at the next party, or just ourselves at home. What a great time we all had in the name of charity! Join us once a month at Angler's and let Carla help you improve your bartending skills while helping a deserving cause, PATA Animal Rescue and their sweet pups (and cat)! Check the events calendar here for the next monthly cocktail crafting course.... https://www.searchsamara.com/allevents

PATA, Sámara's Animal Rescue, cares for and finds forever homes for Sámara's abandoned and stray pet population, as well as providing low cost and no cost castrations and medication to assist in future population control. They are a non-profit organization that does not get goverment assistance and survives only on the kind donations of people like you. We wish our community didn't need their services so desperately, but the unfortunate fact is we have a big problem! PATA is capable of caring for up to 30 rescues at a time and are constantly at or near capacity. Dogs and cats are found abandoned or stray daily, and without assistance from PATA some pet owners would never be able to afford to have their animal fixed. Please take a moment to visit their site and find out how you can donate and other ways you can help in their incredible mission. Our furry friends (AND I) will thank you!
