Story
My husband and I fell in love with Costa Rica the very first time we visited in 2010, and have been dreaming of moving here ever since. Of all of the places we have traveled in Costa Rica, there is something special, something that kept pulling us back to Sámara. So in January of 2023, we made the plunge, and have been loving every minute since. Living in Sámara year-round is an adventure! Some days a frustrating adventure, but most days, the paradise we have been dreaming of.
On the frustrating days, we kept thinking how hard it is to find what you're looking for. Google information was always incorrect or non-existent. The local Facebook groups were a tremendous help. But I found myself having to pop in and out of several groups, asking questions and patiently waiting to find what we were searching for, and in emergency situations, waiting for a response from one of the amazing community members isn't always ideal.
Entonces, SearchSamara.com was born. We started by visiting all of the local businesses and getting the current information then manually entering in the listings. Slowly, businesses started reaching out to us, and we created the ability for business owners to add their own listings, & manage and update their information instantly.
We are currently focusing on growing our service section. If you have ever tried to find an emergency plumber, or air conditioning tech, or even a reliable gardener, you know how difficult it is to locate options, and downright impossible without the help of community members and local Facebook groups. Our goal is to have a robust service section for Sámara's residents to provide a comprehensive directory of available options. To make this happen, we are currently asking everyone for referrals and scouring all local facebook groups, reaching out to these service providers and inviting them to join our site & list their business(es) for free.
After speaking with many business owners, I realized we had been missing some incredible events happening right here in town. The Facebook groups and WhatsApp community is full of fun things to do in Sámara, but scrolling around yourself, it is hard to catch everything available. And just like that, we became a business, service, AND events directory. We love publishing the events pages that give you an overview local happenings, and it has definitely reduced my FOMO 😅
Inclusivity is our goal! Between referral fees and commissions, local businesses are bled dry. We want everyone servicing Sámara to have a platform to be found, no matter their marketing budget. This is why we do not charge for membership or adding a basic business listing to our site. We link the business listings directly to the businesses themselves, not commission tracking affiliate links.
I am a graphic design artist and offer services from logo design, branding, creation of marketing materials & event promotion materials, etc. This is how SearchSámara can continue to offer these free listings and event promotion.
